We assess the personal needs, likes, dislikes and feelings of each patient, and provide a tailored care package designed to provide them with the best possible quality of life. This approach is perhaps why we have been so successful in our work with dementia sufferers. When it comes to dementia each day provides a new and varying set of challenges, and we pride ourselves on our flexibility when it comes to meeting these challenges and adapting to provide our clients with the care they need. In short, Haywood Homes really is dedicated to dementia. In fact it’s our slogan. It’s shocking to think that when we began this business back in 2004 not many people actually knew what dementia was. But we’ve spent the past 15 years ensuring that we are experts in the field so that we can deliver expert care.
But we also think it’s important to promote the fact that dementia doesn’t have to signal the end of normal life. Our work is about ensuring that people are able to live both full and fulfilling lives with dementia. Our latest homes have actually been specifically modelled to aid with the care of dementia sufferers.
But our work goes beyond our walls, as we’ve spent the last few years doubling our efforts in reaching out to the community around us. We work to promote dementia awareness and our latest project has seen us partner with the Museum of Liverpool. Together we hope to be able to teach people more about dementia and its effects in an effort to help people see through the eyes of a dementia sufferer.
To do that we’ve been using one very special vehicle. The Museum of Liverpool have been kind enough to lend us their sensory education van. The insides of this van are designed to offer a glimpse into the sensory experiences of a dementia sufferer. We hope that by taking this out onto the streets in our local communities, we’ll be able to encourage a better understanding of people living with dementia.
